The Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco, know as Casino de Monte-Carlo, is a popular entertainment and gambling hub. Back in the mid-1800s, Princess Caroline, wife of Prince Florestan I, got the idea to open a casino in Monaco in order to rescue the House of Grimaldi from bankruptcy. At the time, the Grimaldi family was one of Monaco’s ruling families. Unfortunately for the family, as soon as the towns of Menton and Roquebrune broke away from Monaco in 1848, it experienced a loss of tax revenue and subsequent financial woes as a result. Despite the princess’s idea, the casino didn’t actually open until Dec.14, 1856, in Villa Bellevue.

To enforce this regulation, the casino staff is required to check passports or other identification documents of the guests before then enter the casino’s gaming rooms. In addition, the Casino de Monte-Carlo served as the location for many of the popular James Bond movies, such as “Golden Eye,” “Casio Royale,” and “Never Say Never Again.”
